Spelling as best I could read it. Not always correct. This Church was Constituted in the following manner by 21 members belonging to Rocky River Church in Abbeville district having obtained a letter for the whole and wanting to become A Church themselves the following Presbytery were chosen by James Couther & James Burris. The above members and Presbytery being present the business was conducted as follows 1st Solom prare and pray to God for his presence and power to assist in the duty of the day. 2nd The Presbytery proceeded to ask such questions as they thought proper respecting ere faith in the method of salvation oy Jesus Christ and there fellowship with each other in the great and important Doctrines of Christ and having received satisfactory answers to there questions on these points. 3rd Enquire after there officers and Church Covenant in which they were satisfied. 4th Join in prare after which they presort gave the members whose names are here enroll. The right hand of fellowship and pronounce them an Church of Christ having full power an ***** ***** to us the discipline laid down **** ***** **** of God for the government of the Churches. Hall, and Black Susan they gave a Relation of a work of grace and were Read and the next Day were baptized adz October 2th, 1824 we the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business Came forward Hannah Brodaway, Mary Pruitt, and Elizabeth Burton by Experience the two first were baptized the next Day - Nov. 13th, 1824 we the Baptist Church met and after prayer Proceeded to business Came forward forward Bartlet Tucker, Hannah Tucker, Fenton Hall, Mary Hall, and Nancy Shaw and Related what god had dun for them. Soles and was read and the next day were baptized and Elizabeth Fowler by letter. December 11th, 1824 The Church met and after prayer preceded to business. Appointed a Committee to inquire into the conduct of Sister fowler and after mature Consideration found nothing. January 12th 1825 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business. Came forward Elizabeth Night, George Milford, and William Tucker and Related what God had Dun for them and was Read and the next Day were baptized N B an the records of this Church oler not state the leave of Bro. Drinking to Excess it is brought for this month how did it ???? acknowledged his faith was forgiven the Church Met and after prayer proceeded to businesses Came forward Martin Hall and Fenton Hall and stated what god had Dun for Them and was Read the next day were baptized Mulbery and Jadea by Letter the Church agreed to have their Communion Season the Second Lords day in May and October more over the Church chose a committee to Settle Sum Difficulty Existing Between Bro. Lent Hall and Johnston Hall to be decided on the Third Saturday in April. March 12th The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business opened a Door granted a Letter to Jolss Pruitt adjourned April 2 The Church met and after usual Exercise proceeded to business the Committee Chosen by the Church the last meeting Viz lador gant Samuel Jones, William Vernon, William tucker Decided the case in favor of Lent Hall. A Door was opened and None Came forward. May 6 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business opened a door accordingly Came forward Zechariah Hall, us by Hall and Nancy Brown and were Read and the next day were baptized. Bro. John Adams Read by letter. June 11 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business opened a Door accordingly Came tom a black man of Bro. Lent Hall and was Read and the next Day baptized. July 9 12th The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business opened a Door accordingly Came forward Thomas Murdock And Sinah a black woman Belonging to Bro. Townson and was Read and the next Day were baptized agreed to prepare a Letter and appointed Bro. Townson and Bro. Joshua Pruitt to have it to Association. August 6 The Church met and after the usual exercises proceeded to open a door Came forward Elizabeth Allen and was received by letter. August 11 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to open a door Ephraim Eaton joined by letter Lucy Tucker proceed to relate What god had done for her Sole but was prevented by Brother Townsend. The Church appointed brethren J Crowther, William Vernon, William Tucker to See if The Could remove the Difficulty but Could not prevail. Adjourned October 9 The Church met and after the usual exercises proceeded to business in Consequence of difficulties between the Church and brother Townsend agreed to Select a Committee to Look into the difficulty existing and call them from our sister Churches viz (was?) Brethren J. Burris, R. Madden, C. Stork, H. Wakefield, C. Gantt, Wiles Fricks. That they Should met next month and attend to the ***** adjourned. November 7 Met in a Church ******ty and after prayer proceeded to business 6 of the comete. Met and appointed Brother Rice to mak the 7th. They then attended to the Case and found him wrong in several things and gave it as there opinion he without a gospel acknowledgment Should be cut off. Adjourned. December 12 The Church met and after proceeded. Brother Townsend came forward acknowledged *** his faith and was forgiven. Sister Townley and Sister Nancy Brown applied for letters the Church granted. January 9, 1926 The Church met and after proceeded Came forward Bro. Heaton and Conjes he had Drank to excesses and was forgiven. The Church agreed to appoint brother William Tucker Clerk in place of Bro. Townsend. February 13 Church met and after prayer proceeded. Bro. Townsend Esquire? If Bro. Jones had done rite in Suffering his Son to Sue him for his Subscription money for the meeting house answered in the negative Likewise Enquire What Should be done with Bro. Vernon as he Held a note on him. They agreed to meet and Settle it against the next meeting further more brother Townsend gave very abusive Language to Some of the brethren in presence of the Church. Adjourned March 11 The Church Met and after prayer proceeded the Case of Vernon & Townsend Settled the between Townsend & Jones Decided in favor of Townsend. Vernon Case of hard language about Some Money is found wrong he owns it and was forgiven. A report against brother Townsend for drinking to excess he denies and says it is not So. April 8 The Church Met and after prayer proceeded a Reference from our last meeting a grievance of Sister Sarah Hall against Bro. Bartley Tucker for refusing to comply with a contract with Bird Tucker **** *** Caul for a Committee of enquiry C. Stark, 2 brother Rice's, C. Gantt, S. *andiver, & Bro. Burris in Case of failure to enquire whether the Should take it up or not again at our next meeting in Case Bro. Starks and brother Burris met but none of the and gave it as there opinion it did not belong to the Church as for the language Bro. Townsend gave Vernon he Says he is truly sorry for it the Church forgave him Likewise his language on our last meeting he says he is Sorry in Something's and others he is not the vote of the Church was Could to know if the Could fellowship him answered not by vote Sister Townsend Applied for Liberty to Call a Committee from our Sister Churches to Settle a grievance Between her and the Church and to be attended to the Friday before our meeting in June Bro. Townsend Requested his Bill of faith first for Cutting up the Church book Second for ordering the table to be Carried away Thirdly for Saying Bro. Pruitt Fabricated Sum nuse about misusing his wife. Adjourned May 13 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business first opened a Door there was a grievance between Bro. John Hall and Bro. B. Tucker in Consequent of Absalom Hall will they have been to an understanding one with the other William Hall Saying the will specifying what he Related to this Committee to wit Joshua Pruitt Jun Bro. Murdock, Bro. John Adams this to be a final Settlement Between them Both. June 10 The Church met and after the usual Exercise proceeded to business the Committee that was Called by Sister Townsend as help to David a Difficulty between her and the Church they met they following persons and was Received to wit Maj. Holland H. Rice, William acker, James Bunes, S. Vandriver, arth Williams, C_ gantt, S_ Duran, R_ Maddin, F_ Burris, Sister townsend Laid Down her grievance Before them Starting her first grievence was Dessposing her husband from his office together with several other Things They proceeded to Business But Did Determine the Case that Day in full but in September they met again they found the Church Wrong in Sum things and Sister Townsend Likewise the Church acknowledged her faith and Sister Townsend acknowledged her in and Peace Restored again we hope. June 11 The Church Met and opened a door Came forward Anah Emerson and related what god had done for her sole and was received & baptized the same Day. July 8 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to open a door none came forward. 2nd appointed Fenton Hall & William Vernon delegates to the assasociation appointed Bro. Crowther & Bro. William Tucker to write the Letter and have it ready against the Friday before the 2nd Lords day in August next the Friday in August met according to appointment. September September meeting disappointed. October 7 The Church met and after prayer attended to business Came forward both Bartlet Tucker & William Tucker and Confect that on Thursday week before at Esquire Blacks they made use of unbecoming language & was forgiven. Opened a door Sister Townsend applied for a letter by request of her husband it was granted it. Brother Keaton applied for ******* granted by order of the Church. The report about Sister Suckey at assertion was groundless also the report on Bro. Tom Tucker false and he was received by letter. November 11 The Church met and after prayer proceeded Came forward Sister Houston and Confest that She maid use of language that was not becoming the Church forgave her the grievance between her and brother Lemuel Hall Setled. A door opened none came forward. Adjourned. December 9 The Church met and adjourned. January 13, 1827 The Church met and after prayer opened a door none Came forward. Adjourned. February 10 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to open a door None Came forward. March 10 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business Bro. Joshua Pruitt Jun Came forward acknowledged that On taxpaying paying Day he got in a pop ion the Church forgave him a door was opened. Adjourned. April 7 The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business there came a massager from Little River Church to our Church in consequence of a report about Bro. William Vernon which they proceeded to send Bro. Ganett, Bro. Carwile, Bro. Wakefield which we read. We took the case up and proceeded to appoint a committee of five of our brethren viz brother Joshua Pruitt Junior, B. Tucker, Lent Hall & brother Purcell with the 3 messengers sent this church is satisfied with brother Vernon from everything they could find out the member sent from Little River did not act . June 9 The Church met and after prayer opened a door came forward Lucinda Hall and gave a ****** ***** was received and John Hall Senior & *****ley Davis and was received & baptized the next day. Adjourned. July 7 The church met and as usual opened a door co-une forward Sarah Beem and on relation received & baptized next day. The church appointed William Tucker & Lemuel Hall delegates to the association. Adjourned. August 18 The church met as usual first came forward Bartley Tucker and says that he had made use of unchristian language for which he is truly sorry the church forgave him. Next opened a door came forward Louisa Butledge and on relation was received also Elizabeth Sligh recievedand a black woman of William Rutledges named Sarah received also Sarah Hall received on relation Cathy Fox seeking fellowship by experience again able memberwho had acted inadvertently for which she is truly sorry and was received. September meeting disappointed by high water. October 13 We the Baptist Church of Christ have met and after prayer proceeded to business first opened a door for the Rep of any one wishing to join. Gila Fowler joined by letter. Adjourned. November 10 We the Baptist Church met and proceeded to business first opened a door came forward William Fowler and related what god had done for his sole and was read then was a case came before us in conference of a report about Martin Hall and Mijr manning the Church excluded him. Adjourned. December 12 We the Baptist Church of Christ have met and proceeded to business we proceeded to appoint Bro. William Vernon to go and sight sister Houston to learn on our next meeting in co-une and sheere c**** who she is hurt with and members. Adjourned. January 1828 Disappointed by high water. February 11 The church met and after prayer opened a door none came forward. Today took up case against black Bob for fighting (for which he was corrected by law) he justifies his conduct and is for the same excluded according to the head of God. March 8 We the Baptist Church of Christ met and as usual proceeded to business. Brother Fowler confesses he had drank to excess and was forgiven. 2nd opened a door none came forward. Adjourned. April 12 8 We the Baptist Church of Christ met and after prayer proceeded to business first opened a door for the reception of any one wishing to join by experience or letter and none came forward. Appointed 2 of the brethren Bro. Joshua Pruitt and Fenton Hall Seig? to go and see sister Bema in consequence of sum hand language in the presence of William Fleming and wife and report our next meeting in co-une which we found to be true. She acknowledge and was restored again. The case between Bro. Samuel Hall and sister Houston that came before us in March 8th 1828. The church appointed Bro. Joshua Pruitt and Bro. Vernon to go and see if the difficulty could be removed with a blessing it settled by the parties. Adjourned. May 10 We the Baptist Church of Christ met and after prayer proceeded to business a complaint lodged by James Houston against Bro. Jones we thought justified not to take it up. Second by opening a door none came forward. Adjourned. June 7 We the Baptist Church met and proceeded to business first opened a door for receiving by experience or letter and none came forward. July 12 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business first opened a door for experience came forward Margaret Gassaway and related what God had done for her sole and was read. August 9 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business first opened a door for receiving by experience or letter and none came forward. Appointed Bro. Lent Hall and Bro. Lemuel Hall to go and sight Bro. Houston to attend at our next meeting and co-une to answer to ***** ******* our black Fister Tuaky departed this life. Adjourned. September 13 We as a Church and proceeded to business. The case of Bro. Fowler laid over until next meeting. In came by being sighted again by the same brethren. Secondly opened a door for experience a black woman belonging to William Brownlee was received by experience and the next day was baptized. Thirdly there is a difference between two of our brethren. The church thought proper to appoint two of the brethren Bro. Joshua Pruitt and Bro. William Tucker to go and see if they could be the means of removing the difficulty and report to our next meeting in the case. Adjourned. October 11 We the Baptist Church met and proceeded to business. First case of Bro. Fowler referred us next meeting. Secondly ordered the clerk to prepare a letter for sister Lora Rutledge, a letter for Townsend. Black people fourthly came forward Mrs. Whit seeking fellowship by next oration. Adjourned. November 8 We the Baptist Church met and proceeded to business. First opened a door for experience and none came forward. The case of Bro. Fowler brought before us the church thought proper to extended him a grievance between sister Houston and Bro. Jones. The Council of the church is for them to take one or two of the brethren out with them and see if they can be the means of removing the difficulty which she made choice of Bro. Crowther and Bro. Madden and Bro. Fuher? as help. We the members lay it over to our next meeting in co-une with the help of Bro. Madden. Adjourned. December 13 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business first opened a door and none came forward. Secondly by the references from our last meeting the grievance between sister Houston and Bro. Jones her grievance as she says ****** will retake to the church what it was Ms Davis evidence is not position against Bro. Jones the evidence of her husband adhered to a thoughtful to be concerned in the matter the vote of the church was called to know whether they could fellowship them or now extend unanimously they could the ***ection was asked Bro. Jones answered he could the same asked sister Houston. She asked terms of one month which is our meeting in co-une. Adjourned. January 10, 1829 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business. The case of sister Houston referred till next meeting in course. Then came forward Bro. Samuel Pruitt and confessed his faith and was by the church forgiven. Adjourned. February 7 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business. The case of sister Houston and Bro. Jones that has once been settled as we thought but she says That she heard some other evidence therefore the church will have them it be satisfactory to the church Capt. Townsend who once was a brother with us and was excluded is now restored by acknowledgment again and the clerk to prepare a letter for him. Dismissed two of our black sister belonging to Townsend by letter. Our aged sister Hannah Hall departed this life. Adjourned. March 7 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business. First the case of Mr. Townsend restoration on our last meeting we as a Church restored him we or truly sorry for it as his condition proved not to us as a Christian some days afterwards. Secondly Bro. Murdock, Bro. Lent Hall and our black Bro. Mulberry came forward and stated to the church that some days ago they had drunk to much Spirits and says they are truly sorry for it the vote of the church was to forgive them for it. Thirdly sister Catharine Jackson who was a member of the Republican Church of Edgefield District was exll*** she justifies them for it and seeks fellowship with us we therefore read from her acknowledgement agreeable to a letter from S*** church. Fourth a reference between sister Houston and Bro. Jones to be decided on our next meeting in co- ume. Adjourned. April 11 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business a door was opened and none came forward. The case of sister Houston and Bro. Jones. Sister Houston evidence Mr. Davis and Josiah Fowler. Mr. Davis says that he was at Mr. Jones and heard him say that he would Draw Mr. Houston over the coler for letting peoples fence and turning out Sheep. Mr. Fowler says that he was at Mr. Houston's and in their dispute heard Mr. Jones tell them that him and Simon did say down his fence and turn out his sheep and he could prove it. We the **** lay it over until our next meeting in co-une. We nominate Bro. Joshua Pruitt Jun as trustee to prepare the elements for the church. In all cases with the friends made up to him. Vernon to go and sight sister Houston to be with us with all her evidence as the church is not satisfied fully Bro. Burton applied for a letter for him and his wife by order of church. June 13 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business first a door was opened a black woman of William Elrod came forward and was read by experience Mariah is her name. The case of sister Houston against Bro. Jones is such she says Bro. Jones came to her home and so that her husband came to Bro. Jones and turned out his sheep and he he could prove it the church granted the liberty her evidence is Mr. Josiah Fowler, William Ramp, and John Davis goes tantamount to prove the egression Bro. Jones says that if he made use of that language it was wrong he does not justify himself if he said it. Therefore the church restored him. Adjourned. July 19 We the Baptist Church at First Creek have met and after prayer proceeded to business first a door for experience or letter and none came forward. We nominated Joshua Pruitt Senior and Fenton Hall to go to the association as delegates. We nominated William Tucker and William Vernon to write the letter. Adjourned. August 1 We the Baptist Church met and after prayer proceeded to business. The case of sister Fox attenced consequence of joining another church of the Methodist order. Appointed Bro. Fenton Hall to go and see if it be so. He reported it to be true. We therefore **** **** from our fellowship. September 12 We the Baptist Church at First Creek have met and after prayer proceeded to business first a door for experience or letter and came forward Suzan Hall and related what God has done for her sole and was read. ****** came Nancy Hall by letter and was read. October 10 We the Baptist Church at First Creek have met and in the following manner proceeded to business first appointed Bro. Lemuel Hall as moderator. Secondly the church think to appoint three of the brethren to talk Bro. ****** when he co-umes in church, Bro. Jones, Bro. Vernon, and Bro. Murdock. Adjourned. November 10 We the Baptist Church at First Creek have met and after prayer proceeded to business first a door for experience or letter Bro. Lemuel moderator and none came forward. December 18 We appoint to meet at this place for the purpose of fasting prayer unto the great head of the church and that he might direct us unto one of his own choosing to fill the place of our aged Bro.
