Anderson Daily Mail

Daily--established Oct 6, 1899, merged with Anderson Independent Sept 30, 1981, continued by Anderson Independent-Mail. Daily Mail originally daily except Mon, by 190 except Sun., c. 1975 except Sat. and Sun. Jan 2, 1900 issue has no vol. number, “first year”, Advocate Publishing Company. G.P. Browne, original editor and publisher, continued to issue People’s Advocate as weekly and semi-weekly edition of Daily Mail until c. 1918. Also, issued at times as Daily Mail. From 1932 to 1981 Anderson Daily Mail and Anderson Independent jointly owned.

Daily--established as semi-weekly Farmers’ Tribune in 1915 on Oct 16, 1917 became Anderson Daily Tribune and merged with Anderson Independent in 1925 to create Anderson Independent-Tribune.

 

Anderson  Farmers’ Tribune

Semi-weekly--established as Farmers’ Tribune in 1915, but soon became Anderson Farmers’ Tribune and in Oct 1917 continued by Anderson Daily Tribune.

 

Anderson Free Press

Weekly--established Aug 28, 1953, ceased c. 1978.

 

Anderson Gazette

Weekly--established Nov 11, 1843, James L. Orr (editor), R.E. Wyatt (publisher). After one year Archibald Todd replaced Orr. According to Ellen, published by Todd and T.H. Russell in 1850. Circa Dec 1854 merged with Southern Rights Advocate to create Gazette and Advocate. Samuel G. Earle, publisher of Anderson Gazettte and Gazette and Adocate, apparently sold latter to A.O. Norris & Co., which revived original name and continued number system.

 

Anderson Independent

Semi-weekly, daily--established 1924, merged with Anderson Daily Tribune in 1925 to create Anderson Independent-Tribune. Published under that title (or Anderson Independent and Tribune) until c. 1950 when resumed original name. Merged with Anderson Daily Mail Sept 30, 1981 to create Anderson Independent-Mail. Began as semi-weekly, but soon became daily. From 1932 to 1981 Anderson Independent and Anderson Daily Mail jointly owned

Daily-created Sept 30, 1981 by merger of Anderson Independent and Anderson Daily Mail.  Also published weekly Hometowner for Anderson and nearby Georgia communities.

Weekly--established in Calhoun (Pickens County) on Sept 4, 1840= vol. 1, no 1. Paper moved to Anderson on Jan 7, 1842 and ceased on Oct 1843 when sold to James L. Orr, who then started the Anderson Gazette.
