Notes and additions by Victoria Proctor, 25 Aug 2001:
The McEachern Cemetery was included in the Bicentennial Project Dillon County Cemetery book and was compiled by Mrs. James R.C. Calhoun and Family. The date of this earlier survey was not provided but one may presume it was conducted prior to 1976. There is, as one would expect, a slight difference between the transcriptions (conditions change, tombstones weather or disappear, there are generally not obvious rows, etc.). You will note that some tombstones may have been replaced since the 1970s and some have sadly disappeared. At the time of the earlier transcription, some nine graves were identified as being enclosed by a wrought iron fence: * * * Begin listing from earlier survey showing graves enclosed in fence * * * Neal McEachern, b. July 21, 1846 - d. Oct. 11, 1918 Catharine Margaret McEachern, b. Oct. 23, 1845 - d. Oct. 26, 1917 Mary Ann, Wife of Daniel McEachern, b. Aug. 29, 1826 - d. Feb. 22, 1906 Gilbert, Son of Neal & Effey McEachern (marker disappeared by 1999) In Memory of Neal McEachern who was born in Kentyre, Scotland - Died in Robeson Co., N.C., July 26, 1825 - Age 43 years In Memory of Archibald McEachern, Son of Daniel & Mary A. McEachern, b. May 28, 1850 - d. May 24, 1852 - Age 2 years In Memory of Daniel McEachern, A Native of Kentyre, Scotland, d. Jan. 18, 1881 - Age 67 years Sallie J., Wife of John R. Jackson, b. July 13, 1855 - d. Aug. 22, 1909 Unmarked (Beside Sallie Jackson) Metal Stake - (marker disappeared by 1999) Material not readable * * * End of listing from earlier survey showing graves enclosed in fence * * * --the marker for Angil Hodges, b. April 10, 1886 (shown above) was listed as Broken Stone, ______ Hodges, b. April 10, 1886 - d. Dec. 17, 1915 --Famy M.R., Daughter of T.J. & Rose McAllister, (marker disappeared by 1999) b. Dec. 22, 1907 - d. Feb. 12, 1909 --In Memory of John McKinlay, Son of Daniel & Barbara (marker disappeared by 1999) McKinlay, b. March 22, 1829 - d. Oct. 17, 1841, Aged 12 --inscription for Neil McEachern (1808 - 1884) read: "He was born under the bright skyes of the Carolina & always lived in the same State." --inscription for Peter G. McEachern (1855-1902) read: "A member of Kentyre Church for 30 yrs. A Deacon & Sec. & Treas. of the Deacon's Board for 11 yrs. He was a man of strength and sterling worth, a consistant Christian and faithful Church official." --date of death for Elizabeth Jackson readable for earlier survey: "b. July 28, 1871 - d. July 23, 1961, Age 89" --The text "Native of Kentyre Scotland" was not listed in earlier survey for Jenett McKinlay (1810-1883) or John McKinlay (1760-1832) --Neill McKinlay, Son of Daniel & Barbara, b. June 27, 1838 - d. June 3, 1853 (date variance, stone probably easier to read in earlier survey but it may also have been replaced) --the broken stone shown in 1999 survey with dates of 1799 - 1872 was intact for the earlier survey: "Daniel McKinlay, Native of Kintyre Scotland, Born 1799 - d. Sept. 4th, 1872 - Age 73" and the wife of John McKinlay must have been buried next to Daniel, the earlier survey shows, listed next to Daniel: "Catharine N. McKinlay, Consort of John McKinlay, Born 1770 - d. 1852" --Sallie Jane Elkins, b. July 12, 1852 - d. May 6, 1926 (marker disappeared by 1999) --Leo Brantly, b. Sept. 6, 1921 - d. Oct. 30, 1924 (marker disappeared by 1999)
