The Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery was compiled by Ron Rowell of Latta, South Carolina. The names were copied from headstones and metal markers in the cemetery. Any errors or mispelled names of any individuals were not intentional.

Directions: Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and Cemetery are located 6 miles north east of Dillon. From east Hwy. 9 , 2 miles east of Dillon beyond the Mt. Calvary Road intersection bear off to the left onto Pleasant Hill Road towards Avalon Academy. Travel this road approximately 4 miles. The Church cemetery is located on the left, at the intersection of the Old Hamer Road and Pleasant Hill Road in Hamer, S.C.

History: Pleasant Hill Baptist Church was built on a plot deeded by the Reverend Hugh Harrelson to J.W. Turbeville, H.B. Miller, and C.B. Arnette for this purpose, as well as, a schoolhouse. A day school and a Sunday School were conducted on the site until 1879 when the church was organized under the guidance of the Reverend Rufus Ford. The pastor of the orginial seventeen-member congregation was: Darius B. Ayers. (Rev. Darius B. Ayers is buried in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Hamer, S.C.) About 1906, the present building was erected to replace the one in which the church began.

In 1957, a generous donation from the Walter Arnette family provided the means for a renovation of the sanctuary and the addition of a modern educational building. Other improvements and addtions have been made since that time.

The neatly kept cemetery is enclosed by a red brick fence with a black iron gate entrance. Many of the old trees have been removed and land leveled. Unlike many cemteries today, there are only a few broken headstones and rusted metal markers to be found in this cemetery.
