Obituary of
Sidney Warren JACKSON
The Dillon Herald, Dillon, South Carolina
October 15, 1925
The death of Mr. Sidney Warren Jackson last Thursday night, while
not entirely unexpected in view of his feebleness for the last few years and his
recent series of illnesses, each leaving him less sturdy, brought grief to a large
circle of friends of Mr. Jackson and his family here.
Mr. Jackson was 72 years of age and has resided in Dillon since
1897 when he moved here from his birthplace near Latta. For many years he was a
faithful member of the Catfish Baptist Church of which his friend, the late
Dr. Joel I. Allen was pastor. At the time of his death his membership was in
the Dillon Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W.C. Allen, pastor
of the deceased, on Sunday afternoon, the interment taking place at Riverside
cemetery. All of Mr. Jackson's children arrived here in time to join the large
cortege of sorrowing friends and relatives that followed to his last resting
place to pay their final tribute of respect to the departed. A wealth of
beautiful floral tributes were placed on the grave.
He is survived by his widow who before marriage was Mrs. Alice
Hayes, one son, Liston Jackson of Fort Worth, Texas, and the following daughters:
Mrs. L.F. DeWitt of Columbia; Mrs. George H. McLeod of New York; Mrs. Sam R. Turner
of Hamlet; Mrs. Charles C. Haynes of Durham, N.C.; Miss Lacy Jackson who resides
with the family here.
