Mr S M Jackson Buried at Philadelphus Church

Mr S M Jackson, aged 76, who died suddenly early Wednesday morning at the home of his son, Walter Jackson, three miles south of Dillon was buried at 11 o'clock Thursday at Philadelphus Cemetery near Red Springs, NC., by the side of his wife who passed away about 4 years ago.

Mr Jackson had been in declining health for several months but his condition was not alarming, and his sudden death came as a shock to his family and friends. On the day before his death, he complained of not feeling very well, but when he retired at his usual hour he expressed himself as feeling better. He arose at five o'clock Wednesday morning and after taking a few steps collapsed and passed away before medical assistance could be secured.

Mr Jackson was a native of Richmond County, NC., and his life was devoted to farming, at which he was very successful. Eight years ago he disposed of his lands and came to Dillon to make his home with his sons. He was a quiet, unassuming man, with a deep sense of humor, and a splendid personality, that won the confidence and friendship of all who came in contact with him.

Mr Jackson is survived by the following children: Walter and Thomas Jackson, Dillon; W F Jackson, Laurinburg, NC.; Mrs J A Townsend, Buie, NC; and Mrs D W Mercer, Lumberton, NC; and one sister, Mrs Jack Morton of Rocky Mount.

Funeral services were conducted by Dr J A Ward, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Dillon, assisted by Rev Johnson of Laurinburg, and Rev McInnis, pastor of Philadelphus Presbyterian Church. Active pallbearers were T W Rochel, E L Covington, O T Trawick, T W King, Geo B Hooker, Charlie Morris. Those assisting with the flowers were Misses Eva and Sallie Walters, Viola Carter, M C Hayes, Juanita Jackson, Mrs Lula Jackson, and Mrs Leon Melvin.
