Death Claims World War Veteran
"Taps" was sounded for one more member of the American Legion who
with unfailing valor served his country during the World War, when Thomas Jackson,
46-year-old veteran, died at the Augusta, Georgia, Veteran's Administration Hospital
Tuesday, February 2. Mr. Jackson had been a hospital patient for several weeks
and had been transferred to Augusta a week before his death.
Interment with funeral services conducted by Dr. J. A. Ward, pastor
of the First Baptist church, was at the Hamilton cemetery Wednesday afternoon.
Member of the American Legion acted as pallbearers and a Legion bugler sounded
"taps" at the graveside.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his mother, Mrs. Henry Jackson, residing near
Dillon; there sisters, Mrs. Florence Smith, Nichols; Mrs. Mamie Brumbles, Latta;
Mrs. Lonnie Wellington, and Miss Donnie Jackson, Dillon; two brothers, Tobe Jackson,
Rt. 2, Dillon and Walter Jackson, Rt. 3, Dillon. Mr. Jackson was unmarried.
