JIM LUPO DIES FROM FIGHT INJURIES

Jim Lupo, well known farmer residing about one mile south of Douglas on the old Nicholls highway, succumbed early Monday morning to injuries received in an encounter with Math Roland, also of near Douglas, after they had quarreled over a matter at Lupo's home, on Saturday night.

According to reports, Roland went to Lupo's home in a drunken condition and after the two had argued for sometime, they began a hand-to-hand encounter in the highway in front of the place. Both men were severely injured, and upon the arrival of an ambulance sent out by the Douglas Undertaking Company, were found near the road badly cut and bruised, Lupo suffering the more severe injuries of the two. He was treated at the City Hospital where he died early Monday morning. Death was said to have resulted from head injuries.

Roland was arrested Sunday by Sheriff R. C. Relihan and lodged in the Coffee county jail, where he is being held pending further investigation.

Mr. Lupo's funeral was conducted from the First Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock with Rev. A. C. Johnson conducting. Active pallbearers were: E. R McLean, L. C. Barnes, R. T. Dismuke, Lige Sapp, J. M. Thrash, and W. R. Gates.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Louella F. Lupo, three daughters, Miss Hilda Lupo, Mrs. Bessie Lupo, Mrs. Ishmael Cargile all of this city, three sisters, Mrs. Pattie Calder, Mrs. Millie Horne of Jesup, Miss Lizzie Lupo, of South Carolina, and one brother, Henry Lupo of Fairmont, N.C.

Douglas Undertaking Company was in charge of funeral arrangements and interment took place in the Douglas cemetery.
