J M Jackson
John Murchison Jackson, 93, pioneer merchant of Bennettsville, died at his home
October 8 following a critical illness of two weeks. He joined the Methodist
Church at 16, and for 70 years was a member of the board of stewards of First
Church, Bennettsville. He was for years a leading business man of the town
and active in civic service. The son of the late Owen Jackson and Mrs Margaret
Murchison Jackson, he was born at Clio. His wife, Mrs Elizabeth Walker Duvall Jackson,
formerly of Cheraw, died in 1923. Mr Jackson is survived by seven children,
Mareen D Jackson, Miss Margaret Jackson, Mrs John M Jackson, Jr., and Miss Harriett Jackson
of Bennettsville, Mrs Frank A Proctor of Blenheim, Rev Roderick H Jackson of Portsmouth, Va.,
Episcopal Church, and Mrs Boyd Nash of Spartanburg. The funeral services were conducted
by his pastor, Rev. E S Dunbar, assisted by Rev George H Harris, rector of St Paul's
Episcopal Church.
