Stonewall Jackson, 89, died Tuesday in a local hospital after an illness.
Funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in Riverside Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home.
Born in Dillon County, December 26, 1902, he was the son of the late Joe L. Jackson and Mary Hyatt Jackson. He was twice married, first to the late Betty Morris and then to the late Jeanette Aveni. He had been a successful businessman since 1927. He was a member of the State House of Representatives in 1945-46 and served two terms as a member of the Dillon County Executive Committee. He had a deep interest in government and civic progress. During World War II, he served as a Sergeant in the Home Guards, and was a lifetime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce and the Dillon County Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his daughters, Betty Jean Harrelson of West Columbia, Geneva Russell, Stonie Bee Ivey, and Jonathon M. Jackson of Dillon; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his son, Winston Jackson.
