Has anyone in Edgefield Co. come across listings of Bible records published in FAMILY PUZZLERS, the weekly genealogy magazine edited by Mary Bondurant Warren from 1964 until 1998? I thought that HERITAGE PAPERS went out of business when Mrs. Warren stopped publishing Puzzlers the end of 1998. Not so!! I recently found the new websites for HERITAGE PAPERS as well as for FAMILY PUZZLERS, TNG, the monthly magazine edited by Mrs. Warren’s daughter Amy Warren Sanders! Most of the items that Heritage Papers used to advertise in their annual catalog are still available, including back issues of the quarterly magazines GEORGIA GENEALOGIST and CAROLINA GENEALOGIST, lots of historic maps, as well as source materials for Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Some bound volumes of Family Puzzlers are still available. For Heritage Papers, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/heritagepapers For Family Puzzlers, The Next Generation, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/familypuzzlers I just thought you’d like to know, I did!! Am searching for a Wells family that left SC for Indiana sometime before 1834, when my g-g-g-grandfather John Wells was born in Posey County Indiana. On census documents he lists his father's place of birth as South Carolina. Family legend has it that three brothers came to America from Wales at the time of the Reformation in England (i.e. reign of Charles II) and that the men of the family have always been masons or bricklayers by trade. I believe I am searching for a James William, since John's son was called James William II. I note a large family of Wells brothers in the old 96th District around the time of the Revolution and am hopeful of a connection.

I am researching William Gambrel in South Carolina. This William is NOT the son of John Gambrel of Old Pendleton District. This William married Winnifred Elkins of NC, in SC c1797. They show in the 1800 census, but c 1802 they leave SC for Kentucky. I am trying to trace where William came from to SC, and if he is any relation to John Gambrel. In the Edgefield SC 1790 census, the name "Hambrel" is shown. That person could have come from Holland, because in Holland, the "G" is pronounced as an "H", even though the name would be spelled with a "G". Whoever took the census would not have known that fact, and wrote the name as he heard it. (The writing is definitely not a "G", because 6 names above it is written the name Gardner with a proper "G".) Has anyone heard of this Hambrel family? On the same census, is also a "Kimbrel" family - does this name still exist? Would appreciate any help.

From census records I know that a John Baugh, Amasa Baugh, and Daniel Baugh were in the Edgefield area between 1790 and 1810. I found Samuel Baugh and John Baugh listed in Logan County, KY 1819 Tax List. John Baugh married Elizabeth Taylor (reported to be of Cherokee Indian descent). Samuel got a land grant for his War of 1812 service. Everyone with whom I have talked says Samuel and John were brothers. I have no documented evidence. Greetings! I'm searching for information about slaves owned by the Woolley family who migrated from Edgefield Dist. of Chester County to Bibb/ Perry County, Alabama. These Woolley descendants entered into three marriages with the Yeagers of Bibb Co. during the 1800s. 1. Gabriel Perry Yeager married daughter of Greenberry Woolley 2. Martha Elizabeth Yeager married Minor Woolley (son of Basil Andrew) 3. Daniel Yeager married Emily A.T. Woolley My Great Grandmother, her parents, and her nine siblings worked for the Yeagers in Brent, Alabama. My Great Grandmother's last name is Wooley. It was not uncommon for slaves to adopt the slave owner's surname after the Civil War. Do any of these names ring a bell? --Curtis Wooley & Evalina Hunt (no DOB on record) --Curtis Gayles & Lucinda Gayles (no DOB on record) --Thomas Wooley (DOB: 07:15/1877) & Viola Gayles(DOB:03/17/1880) I believe my Great Grandmother's grand parents may have been from West Africa. My hunch is they were transported to South Carolina and purchased by the Wooley family. When the Wooley's moved to Alabama, they brought their slaves with them. It's just a hunch. Any help would be greatly appreciated. God Bless & Good luck with your search!
