I have placed some databases of interest on to Y' ALL on our website. http://www.saludaschistorical.org then look for database lookup on the main page and then you will be able to search by name or enter the name and get the soundex code then enter the soundex code to receive alternatitive spellings. This page is a work in progress...The data is incomplete but may be useful and I wanted to present at least some of it for your usage. The cemetery names needs a lot of work as I used Caere Omni Page OCR program to "read it in" and it has innumerable spelling errors that I am correcting as I have time. Date: | 02 Dec 2001 |
Seeking information on George & Mary SIZEMORE who transacted deeds with James MARTIN of Edgefield Co, SC, during the early 1790's. They are probably in the 1790 household headed by George SIZEMORE on p. 102 of the Orangeburg Dist. census, as Simeon CUSHMAN is enumerated nearby and is listed as a neighbor in a 1792 deed. George died in Barnwell Dist, SC, apparently between AUG 1792 (when he executed a deed on the Edgefield property) and JUN 1793 (when his evident widow executes a deed solely). Mary's madien name may have been MARTIN, which comes down as a given name among the SIZEMORES. In an 1806 deed, George's heirs Gabriel SIZEMORE, George SIZEMORE, John SIZEMORE, and Moses GOSS (probably a son-in-law) sell the Edgefield Co. land they inherited. Another possible child is Owen SIZEMORE, who appears to have retained his inherited land. I am interested in any information on this family and on any SIZEMORES in South Carolina, as well as background on James MARTIN. I will be glad to share what data I have -- thanks. |

I am just starting the research on the Wright family. I have family records that show a James Wright moved to Edgefield, SC sometime after 1779. He had five sons, Jacob, john, James, Thomas, and William. He had three daughters Bitsy, Margaret and Mary. He died on his farm, The Oaks, in Edgefield, date unknown. His son Jacob Wright married Nancy Howell of Edgefield. They had 9 sons, Thomas, Joseph, William, Ira, Wessley, J.Russell, Fletcher, Curtis and Robert. Daughters were Kittie, Ellen, Anna and Virginia. Three sons were killed in the civil war, three were wounded and three unscathed. I am decended from Curtis, whom my mother remembers. J. Russel was a newspaper reporter for the Edgefield newspaper and wrote articles during his time as a Confederate Soldiers. I have copies of some of his articles suchs as his version of Pickett's charge and the surrender at Appomadox. The last article I have is one he wrote after my great grandfather died in 1922. If you know of anything that would help me find dates etc. of these earlier Wrights and Howells I would appreciate the help. I would also be interested to know if The Oaks still stands or if "Fruit Hill" owned by the Howells still stands. |

Need information on parents or any family members of a George Frazier or Frazer born in Edgefield or Abbeville County around 1798-1800. George was found in Monroe, La in 1850. At that time he had five children, all of which were born in Al. The oldest was named Waitman. Believe George had a brother names Charles. I would appreciate any information pertaining to any and all Fraziers in that area during the late 1700's to early 1800's |

I am trying to trace the Adams branch of my family. My Grandfather was James Howell Adams and his Father was Rev James Quincy Adams, born July 10, 1827, died July 27, 1893 and buried in Sweetwater Cemetary. Both of them were born in Edgefield County. Any information beyond that would be appreciated, because I am stuck. I have found some reference to a James Adams, born around 1777 and died in 1842 as the Father of James Quincy Adams, but have no other information. My Grandmother was a DeLaughter also from Edgefield County. I have been able to develop some information regarding the DeLaughters, but I am trying to find any information about Mary Carson DeLaughter (wife of George Delaughter) who may have been killed by Indians. Any information about the Indian attack would be interesting. Thanks for your help. Jeannette Adams Broome |
