Raymond Does anyone have any information concerning an c1872 Colored Methodist Episcopal Church conference/convention in Tennessee? Based on what i've heard, this convention a significant event following the Civil War. As I understand it was the foundation for the split from the 'White' Methodist Church. Since my knowledge of this event is so limited any information you have will be most appreciated.

K.Tucker Sat, 10 AUG 1996 Hello. I'm delighted to have found this resource for genealogical research. I am researching ancestors who lived in Laurens Co. & Newberry Co., SC & possibly Spartanburg, SC in the 1800s. The families I'm seeking info about are the Cook and Irby families of Laurens Co and the Cannon, Eichelberger, & Sligh families of Newberry Co. The Cannons may also have been in Spartanburg inthe 1850s &1860s.
William Cook of Laurens Co., son of Abraham Cook (d. 1843 in Laurens Co.) and Henrietta Irby Cook (d. 1851 in Laurens Co.) married Ella (?) Cannon (I have not yet identified her parents or place of birth, but it is like to be Newberry, Laurens, or Spartanburg).
William & Ella Cook had three children: two sons, Pettis & LeFlore Cook, and one daughter, Mattie Lee Cook, b. 25 Dec. 1860, I believe in Laurens Co. LeFlore may have been b. in Spartanburg.
Any info re: these families would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.Roger L. Dickerson Sat, 31 Aug 1996 09:38:56
