Surnames: DAVIS BERRY GORMAN
Submitter: Priscilla Watkins
Date: 23 Sep 1998
Am seeking information regarding Chesley Davis who lived in Edgefield County during the early 1800s. He married Susanna Berry Gorman, the widow of Claiborn Gorman. I am told that his first wife was Mary Canady, but have found no evidence for this. I would also like further evidence concerning his service in the Revolutionary War as his service record appears to be conflated with the Absalom Davis' son, Chesley, who also served in the revolutionary war. My Chesley died at Abbeville, S. C. where his will may be found (1827) and the final settlement for his estate (1836).

I am seeking any additional information that you can add to these families. It is believed that Pleasant's family may have come out of South Carolina (especially Edgefield County). Thanks a million. ====================================== Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB1 was born about 1765. He died between 1830 and 1840 in Ohio, USA. Around 1800 Pleasant and family came in to the Ohio valley from Rutherford County, North Carolina. In 1803 he was in Scioto County, Ohio and was said to be a notorious character, said to be a Tory during the Revolutionary War. Pleasant was in Greenup County, Kentucky in 1820 and in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1830, he did not appear in the 1840 census, so it is believed he died between 1830-1840. Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB and Unknown (Margaret BLACKWELL?) had the following children: Elias WEBB, James WEBB, Hanley WEBB, Aden WEBB, William WEBB, Margaret WEBB, Baker WEBB, Sarah (Sally) WEBB, and Temperance WEBB.
