In 1800 there was an Edgefield deed between William Moore & John & Sally Walton with James McMillan witnessing. Is this the same family? This family removed to Abbeville Co, SC by 1810, Clarke Co, AL by 1816, Hinds Co, MS aft. 1830, then finally to Newton Co, MS, where John WALTON died in 1850 leaving many descendants still in the area. The family was closely associated with the Boulware/Bowler family that also came from Edgefield. Seeking data on Nathaniel Lankford (Langford)who in his will bequeathed land on NinetySix Creek to his son Edmond Lankford. Edmond sold this land to William Burton in 1801. The land bounded on the Northwesterly side by William Burton's land. Sale was recorded in Book 21 Edgefield, South Carolina Deeds 1802. There is some confusion in the Deed as to who Nancy Lankford was. In one line she is referred to as wife and another mother. She is also signed her name as Nancy Millener. I believe at this point that Nancy was indeed the mother and she remarried and released her interest or control over this land after her remarriage. I would like to locate Nathaniel's will in which he left this land and firm up the relationships. Witnesses to the land sale were: John Burton, Benjamin Carey, Mary Carey, William Griffin, Henry Pursewell and Elizabeth Spragins. Thanks to everyone who is helping me find this very illusive family. |

In 1817-1818 they moved in a covered wagon to Humphreys County, TN and lived in it until they could build a house. I am curious if there are records for them or their ancestors. I am also curious as to why they moved to Tennessee. On the 1790 Census I found 2 listings for John Hatcher (possibly father of John dob 1791?), a Robert Hatcher and a Lucy Hatcher. Found no Landrum. We are trying to research my wife's family history in Edgefield. Her mother was Louise Lyon. Her grandfather was Matthew David Lyon. He was born in Edgefield County June 2 1852. He married Susan Harling. She was born Oct. 27, 1866. We think both are buried in Edgefield County. We would like to find out more about them and their ancestors. We have been told they came from Scotland around Glamis Castle in Coupar Angus. Can this Lyon family be traced back there? If so, the Queen Mother is a Lyon and grew up there. We visited there last year and could find out nothing. Thanks |

GRIFFIN - KNIGHT - LOWE I'm looking for ancestors of my ggg grandfather, William Henry Griffin. He was born in Edgefield SC in 1840 or 1846, depending on whether you believe his gravestone (much later than burial - the almost illegible family bible says 1841 or 2- maybe) or the 1870 census. His mother's name was probably Adline (again per the family bible). He married Frances Ann Eugenia Knight, widow of Daniel Asbury Lowe, July 28 1863 (per family bible) but we don't know where. Probably SC because we have Richmond Cy marriage records & they don't appear there. Frances Knight and Daniel Lowe were married in Edgefield. By 1870 we do have them firmly established in Augusta per the city directory, census with address, etc. Any information will be greatly appreciated! |
