Abstract of Article of Agreement - 5 October 1785.

Nuptual Agreement that Elizabeth Minton the widow of John Shewmaker had no claim on the estate
of her present husband, Jesse Minton. Preserved for his children were notes, accounts, bonds,
cattle, the increase of the negroes (4), 700 acres of land, three beds and other furniture,
plantation tools. But she was to receive 1/2 of the income above expenses less 28L 11sh
sterling.
If he should die first, then she was to give his heirs all mentioned but to have for herself
500L sterling if she executed the agreement correctly.

This INDENTURE made the 21st day of February and in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven
Hundred and Eighty Seven. WITNESSED that Zachariah Bell of Camden District and the State of
South Carolina hath of their own free will and accords hath placed and bound their son Thomas
Bell apprentice to Robert Dunlap, now useth, and with him as an Apprentice to dwell continue
and sarve from the day of the day of the date hereof, untill the said Thomas Bell com to the
age of twenty one years, during all which term the Said Apprentice his paid Master well and
faithfully shall serve, his Secrits keep, his lawful commands gladly doo and obay Hurt to us
said Master he shall not doo nor willfully suffer it to be done by others but of the same
to the utmost of his power shall forthwith give notice to his said Master the goods of his
Master he shall not embezle or waste nor them lends without his consent to any at cards or any
other unlawful games he shall not play, Taverns or Ale Houses he shall not frequent,
fornication he shall not commit, Matrimony he shall not contract, from the service of his
said Master he shall not depart or absent himself without his Said Master's Leave, but in
all things as a good and faithful Apprentice shall and will remain and behave himself toward
his Sd Master and all his during the said term, and the said master in consideration for the
said Service in the said occupation of planting which he now useth shall Teach & instruct in
the best way and manner he can and shall and will also find allow unto his said apprentice
sufficient meat. Drink, washing, Beding and Cloathing fitting for an Apprentice also shall
& will learn him to Read and Write and at the expiration of said term is give unto the said
Apprentice still one Horse & Saddle & one suit of Cloathing.
In witness therof the parties of this Indenture have set their hands and seals the day and year
above mentioned.
