Death of Rev. Jno. Faile

On the 25th inst. at 8:30 pm Rev. Jno. Faile of Flat Creek quietly breathed his last in the presence of his immediate family and a few intimate friends. While he had been confined to his bed only a very short time his death was not unexpected as he had been in failing health for some time. The immediate cause of Bright's Disease from which he had been suffering for quite a while. He was born Dec. 1 1822 and was therefore 77 years old. When quite a young man he was married to Miss Martha Kennington who now survives him. Nine children were born to them five of whom are still living.

Mr. Faile entered the Confederate army in April 1861 and remained in active service throughout the war. Soon after the war he entered the Baptist Ministry and since then his time has been spent in pointing sinners to Christ.

His style has always been plain and matter of fact yet under his supervision several churches were organized, notably among the latter being old Laurel Hill church which stood about a half mile from town and was the original Kershaw Bapt. Church.

His remains were interred in the family burying ground near Charlesboro church on the 27th inst in the presence of several hundred relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. T.A. Dabney in a very able and impressive manner.

In his death the community loses a good citizen, the church a worthy member and an earnest and honest pastor. We extend our sympathy to the family. (Note: the date of the notice was not copied. On the same page is a notice dated July 29, 1899. Another notice mentions "2nd Tues in Aug next". The tombstone at Blackmon Cem. gives Jan. 25, 1899 as the date of death, leaving a question as to the actual date. The months of Jan. and July 1899 need to be rechecked to determine exact date of obituary notice to confirm date of death. My apologies.)
