Death at Kershaw of an Old Soldier and Good Citizen

Camden, Nov. 27 -- Capt. William Clyburn died last night at Kershaw. Capt. Clyburn was born in this county and lived in Camden from early boyhood until a few months ago, when he moved to Kershaw. When the Confederate war broke out Capt. Clyburn was clerk of court of Kershaw County. He hired a deputy to take charge of the office and entered the Confederate service as a ieutenant in the De Kalb Rifles - Gregg's 1st SC Vol. When term of service of this regiment expired Mr. Clyburn returned home an raised a company and reentered the army as Captain I Nelson's 7th SC battalion. Capt. Clyburn made a gallant soldier. He was captured at the battle of Fort Wagner and imprisoned for a long time at Johnson's island. Since the war Capt. Clyburn was again elected clerk of court for several terms. Deceased was seventy years of age, leaves surviving him his wife, two sons and two daughters. The interment will take place at Kershaw at 2:30 this afternoon.
