JAMES WALTER HILL was born in 1842 in
Colleton Co., S.C. While at Furman University he joined
Garvin's Artillery company and served throughout the war.
Death came to him at his home in Greenwood, S.C., November
14, 1905. He is survived by his wife and several children.
It is said that Garvin's guns
were hot after LEE had surrendered and Comrade HILL is
supposed to have fired the last shot from this famous
battery.
