MAJOR SAMUEL LEAMAN
The subject of this notice was born August 28, 1827, near Cross Anchor, Laurens Co. His parents were Christians of old Presbyterian school and he was brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. He gave his life to the Lord in his early life and united with the Liberty Springs Presbyterian Church at Cross Hill, S.C.
He went out at the first call to defend his country and faced the enemy bravely and faithfully to the end. He came home and toiled successfully, until his death. On May 31st, 1865, he and MISS SUSAN L. WALDROP were happily married. In September , 1873, he was elected Deacon. In June 1876, he was elected , ordained and installed as Elder, but by his quiet and timely nature, believing others better fitted, would not serve.
His wife being an invalid for several years kept him at home, where he answered her every want and call until the Lord called her home. Major SAMUEL LEAMAN died peacefully and quietly, May 31, 1896 leaving behind four noble sons and one kind and affectionate daughter. His life is an example left us. He was a true man, kind neighbor and an affectionate and devoted husband and father. He was not afraid to die, but was ready to meet his blessed Christ...there is a crown for each of you. Be ready to receive it.
