This cemetery recorded Sunday March 11, 2001 by Kim and Dana Grissom. Directions to Mepkin Abbey: Take I-26 to exit 199b in Charleston, South Carolina this will put you on 17A North. At the traffic light when you can not go straight anymore turn Left. Cross over the Tail Race Canal, at the first traffic light turn Right this will put you on SC 402. At the stop sign turn Right. When cross over a little bridge turn Right on the first road this Dr. Evans Dr. Go 6 miles until you see the sign for Mepkin Abbey. Berkeley County, South Carolina

History of Mepkin Abbey: Home of Henry Laurens, who was born in Charleston in 1724 and died at Mepkin in 1792. President of the first and second councils of safety, 1775-1776; President First Provincial Congress of S.C. 1775; vice president of SC 1776; president of Continental Congress 1777-1778; elected minister plenipotentiary to Holland 1779. Confined fourteen months in the Tower of London and exchanged for Lord Cornwallis; signed preliminaries of Peace in Paris, with Adams, Jay, and Franklin, 1782.

There are three different locations on Mepkin Abbey where people are buried. #1- When you enter Mepkin Abbey you follow the road to the 4 corners of the road, turn to the Right follow that road until you pass the last building on the Left there is dirt road on the left side of the road follow this road until you see a brick fence. This is where the first section is. #2- When are the 4 corners go straight across look to your right until you see benches off to your right this is where section 2 is. #3- When you are at the 4 corners go straight across and follow the road until it ends off to your left you will section 3.
