1912

September 5, 1912

Last Friday, Mr. R. A. BRUNSON died at the home of his son, R. A. Brunson, Jr. He was 64 years old, and was born March 3, 1848. Civil War veteran. His first wife was Miss Willie WATERS, his second wife was Miss Roberta J. BETHEA, both deceased. Survived by five children: Mrs. Marie Brunson, Jerome Brunson, Mrs. Willie MADDEN, R. A. Brunson, Jr., and Mrs. J. W. GADDY (latter two residents of Dillon.)

Arthur P. BRIGMAN, son of Lewis and Rachel Brigman was born in Wilmington, NC on Jan. 30, 1844 and died at Dillon on Aug. 27, 1912. Civil War veteran. Survived by his wife and sons: Charles I., John N., Lucas G. & Archibele L. Brigman. Four children preceded him to the grave. (probably buried at Pleasant Grove)

Lizzie HERRING, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. P. H. HERRING, died on Aug. 17. She would have been 13 years old on Dec. 11, 1912. Buried at Bethesda Church.

September 12, 1912

Miss Agnes Leona SELLERS, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. P. B. Sellers, married Theodore Bradley DUBOSE on Thursday evening.

R. P. HAMER died in Saluda, NC on Monday morning. He was born at Little Rock, 52 years ago, and married Miss McCOLLUM of Brownsville, the daughter of the late Brown McCollum. He is survived by his wife, two sons: R. C. & Brown Hamer; two daughters: Misses Sarah and Flora Hamer; brothers and sisters: W. M. Hamer - Dillon, J. W. Hamer - Little Rock, Brooks Hamer - Clio, Mrs. Holmes HARDIN - Chester, Mrs. J. R. ROGERS - Dillon, and Misses Maude and Nora Hamer. Buried at Family plot, in Little Rock Methodist Church with Masonic honors.

September 26, 1912

Mr. McP. McL. ALFORD, eldest son of the late Capt. Wm. Alford of Selkirk, died in Maxton last Friday (9/20/1912). He was born near Selkirk. Buried at Eastside Cemetery in Maxton.

Sidney H. MOODY, colored, died Saturday morning, 9/21. Twice married, leaves wife and several children. He was the son of Simeon Moody and one of 26 Children.

October 3, 1912

Mr. W. G. HYATT died Sat. morning (9/28/1912) from gunshot wounds. He was 60 years old and leaves a large family.

Mr. Enos TART who died Saturday (9/29/12) in Florida was buried at the family burying ground near Kirby Cross Roads. He was 60 years old and survived by several sons. (born ca. 1852)

Lumberton - Mr. Will S. COBB died last night, 36 years old. He is survived by his wife and five children: Mary Harper (10 years old), Charles, William, Gary, and a 5-week old son; his mother and father: Rev. & Mrs. J. W. Cobb of Lumber Bridge; and four sisters: Mrs. R. P. HOWELL of Roseboro and 3 unmarried sisters.

October 10, 1912

Mr. "Neill" STANTON, died Saturday (10/5/1912). Buried at Little Rock. He leaves a wife and several sons and daughters. (Cornelius H. "Neill" Stanton)

Mr. & Mrs. Robert H. MURPHEY announce the engagement of their daughter, Minnie Louise Murphey, to Capt. Edward Harlee CARMICHAEL to take place Nov. 20. The groom is the son of Mrs. Agnes Carmichael.

Mrs. H. I. PARHAM (S. M. BIGGS) died Sept. 7, 1912. Buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery beside her father. She was born May 13, 1863.

Mr. Frank SANDERSON and Miss Martha J. COLLINS married Sunday.

Last Thursday, Mr. James A. HUTCHINS and Miss Essie GUILL were married. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. W. B. Guill.

October 17, 1912

Miss Eula MOODY, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. R. J. Moody, married on Monday, Mr. Joseph DALE.

Mrs. S. R. ROBERTS of Zion died last week. She was the daughter of the late L. M. EDWARDS and was born and reared near Mullins. She was 50 years old, and is survived by her husband and several children.

Mr. J. F. HARTLEY and Miss BERRY of Kirby were married on Oct. 9, 1912. The bride is the daughter of S. W. Berry.

October 24, 1912

Miss Maude McDONALD, daughter of Mrs. D. D. McDonald, married Mr. R. P. SLOAN last Sunday.

Lawrence BETHEA, colored, died last Thursday (10/17,/1912). He was 40 years old.

October 31, 1912

Mrs. F. 0. S. CURTIS died in Walterboro on the 16th. She was 68 years old, and leaves a husband and the following children: Mrs. H. S. BLIZZARD - Lake City, Miss Rosa Curtis -Walterboro, Mr. H. G. Curtis - Charleston, and Mr. F. McC. Curtis - Dillon.

November 7, 1912

The remains of the late N. C. McDUFFIE who died in North Carolina last week were brought to Mullins for burial at Cedardale Cemetery.

Little Rock, Oct. 30 - Mr. J. C. BENNETT married Miss Maggie McLAURIN, both of Carolina Community.

Mr. Levi IVEY of Clio died Oct. 29. He was 73 years old and survived by his wife and 3 step children: Mrs. J. W. IVEY - Clio, James McKINNON - Hebron, and John McKINNON - Washington, DC; and one sister: Mrs. Eliza F. GOODMAN; and one sister in law: Mrs. H. W. Ivey - Clio.

November 14, 1912

Pages Mill, Nov. 11 - Prof. W. S. NELSON died Oct. 29. He was a native of Monroe, N.C. Survived by his wife and two teenage daughters.

Mr. L. B. ROGERS died Sunday (11/10/1912). He was 74 years old and a Civil War Veteran. He was married to the former Miss Adeline TOWNSEND (who died three years ago). His Sons and daughters: Rufus L. Rogers - Winder, GA, W. C. Rogers - Bishopville, Dr. J. R. Rogers - Dillon, D. F. Rogers - Atlanta, A. M. Rogers - Clio, H. M. Rogers - Dillon, L. B. Rogers, Jr. - Latta, A. P. Rogers - Atlanta, Mrs. S. A. McMILLAN and Misses Julia and Ida Rogers of Latta. He was born in Latta.

Mr. G. D. BELL and Miss Addie HAMILTON, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. D. V. Hamilton, were married on Nov. 6th. The groom is a native of Dunn, N. C.

November 21, 1912

Mr. Jno. C. COTTINGHAM died Tuesday (11/19/1912). He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Mary Jane LeGETTE of Clio and children: R. L. Cottingham - Gadsden, AL, W. J. Cottingham - Cullman, AL, L. Cottingham - Dillon, Mrs. J. B. STEEL - Kingstree, A. H. Cottingham - Union, SC, Mrs. Lafar LIPSCOMB - Gaffney, SC, Ernest Cottingham - Gallavon. Buried at Little Rock.

Mr. Miles McINNIS died at the home of his nephew, Mr. Dunk Mclnnis, near Carolina. Buried at Carolina Church Cemetery.

Marion, Nov. 18 - Miss Furman WALL died at the home of her aunt, Mrs. W. B. Wall, this morning. Buried at Friendship Church. She leaves one sister and two brothers: Lt. John Wall and Lonnie Wall of Eulonia.

Summerville, Nov. 9 - Maner RICE, 12-year old son of James Henry Rice, was accidentally shot today.

November 28, 1912

Miss Viola Monroe, oldest daughter of Mrs. M. E. ATKINSON of Latta married Mr. L. A. HAMMOND last Wednesday.

Col. C. F. MOORE died Saturday in Cheraw (11/23/1912). Buried at St. David’s Churchyard. Born in Marlboro County 49 years ago.

Miss Ola ATKINSON married Mr. AMMONS on Wednesday (11/27/1912).

Rev. Simeon CAMPBELL of Mullins died Thursday. He was 84 years old and is survived by one daughter.

Mr. Edward Harlee CARMICHAEL of Savannah, GA, formerly of Dillon, married Miss Minnie Louise MURPHY of Jesup, GA last Wednesday. (11/20/1912)

December 5, 1912

W. D. WATSON, a Horry County student at Furman Univ. died Friday near Greenville.

Thos. C. WEATHERLY died in Bennettsville Monday morning. He was 47 years old and the only son of the late Dr. I. J. Weatherly of Dillon. He is survived by his widow and children.

Mrs. Mary Jane COUSAR died at her home near Selkirk, Monday night. She was 77 years old and was the widow of the late Rev. James Cousar. She is survived by two Sons: Messrs H. N. & Charlton Cousar and one daughter: Mrs. E. A. McCORMAC. Buried at Alford Burying Ground.

Mr. Jno. G. MALCOLM, father of Mr. J. V. Malcolm, died in Conyers, GA on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

December 12, 1912

Marion - Tuesday afternoon Mayor N. Bruce HARGROVE married Miss Daisy GODBOLT.

Calvery - Born to Mr. I. B. McDANIEL - a boy.

Clio - H. S. COX (bigamist) on April 10, 1910 married Miss Lena PATE daughter of D. W. Pate (wife #2).

December 19, 1912

Col. E. F. McRAE died in Maxton on December 10.

Mr. Carl MEDLIN and Miss Claudine WEBSTER were married Sunday morning.

December 26, 1912

Mr. Brad COURTNEY of Aiken was shot and killed Thursday. Leaves a widow and five children.

Joseph JACOB - Fairmont, N.C. - took Annah DEES to Dillon, S.C. and married her on Sunday morning. On Wednesday he married Bettie HUNT of Fairmont, N.C.

Miss Janie BETHEA, daughter of Janie Bethea, married Mr. Luther ROGERS. The groom is the son of the late L. B. Rogers.
