NEWSPAPERS
Newspapers are a wonderful resource for genealogists, providing a history of our
ancestors through birth,
marriage and death announcements, obituaries, and other
news stories pertaining to daily life in the community.
Many of the surviving old newspaper
issues have been microfilmed and/or abstracted, and you should check with
your local genealogy
and LDS libraries
to see what is available and what may be ordered through interlibrary loan.
You'll also want to check church newspapers, such as the
Southern Christian Advocate,
neighboring county newspapers,
and state-wide newspapers.
Dillon County's newspaper is:
THE DILLON HERALD
P.O. Box 1288
Dillon, SC 29536
Early issues of The Dillon Herald are
available on microfilm at the Dillon County library per the
following list kindly
provided by Helen Moody

and latest issue within a particular
microfilm roll are shown,
not every issue is included on that roll --
some issues are missing within a date span. In some

another reel.

NEWSPAPER DATA ONLINE: Extracts from Dillon County Newspapers
by Gloria Calhoun Buckle, © 2003
As many of you already know, Mrs. Buckle is the author of
several volumes of extracts from Pee Dee area newspapers.
Scrolling through reel after reel of microfilm to transcribe all birth,
marriage, and death notices is truly a labor of love, and we are most
grateful to Mrs. Buckle for permitting the display of her work here.
Thank you, Gloria!
Please note that the extracts will be added in installments, so be
sure to check back from time to time.
