RODGERS / ROGERS My Mystery Man!!! I believe this to be my ancestor but cannot prove it. Stephen Shelton RODGERS, called "Shelt" was born about 1800, probably in S.C. He raised a family in Hickman County TN but after 1840 I no longer can find him on a census with his family. I do not believe he was dead. On the 1850 census of Laurens Co. S.C., pg. 204, a man appears named Shelton ROGERS, age 48, living alone. On the 1860 census of Laurens Co I do not find a Shelton ROGERS. On the 1870 census of Laurens Co (Cross Hill Twp) I find Shelton ROGERS, age 71, born S.C. The man on the 1850 and 1870 census appear to be the same person. How can I find out who he was? Any ideas?
