RENOLDS Looking for ancestors, spouses, siblings, descendants, (anybody?) ... Hearsay documents William REYNOLDS in the 1800 Laurens Co. census. William was married to Alsey (born in Ireland) and they had the following children: Alsey (born 1798 SC), Margaret, Samuel Marion, Robert, William, John, Rebecca, and two other daughters... William REYNOLDS father was possibly Thomas Reynolds who was born in the Highlands or in Ireland. Thomas had another son, Samuel, who lived at some point in Warren Co., IL. Both John and Nancy were born and died in Laurens County, SC. Both Jane & Eli were born in SC. They were married in SC in 1832. They moved to GA about 1838. Who were Eli's parents or siblings? TOLAND / LANGSTON Looking for information on Hugh Toland who married Mary Langston. Hugh from Ireland. Both Hugh and Mary are buried in the Langston Family Cemetery in Laurens County. Evidently they lived and raised their children there. Their son, William, is my husband's g grandfather and he and his wife Paulina Street Toland are buried in Mart Cemetery in Mart, Texas. WATTS / MORELAND / PUTNAM Hi my name is Carole Watts and I'm looking for my Grandfather and his brothers. My grandfather was George Washington Watts b circa 1858 in Laurens Co. He had three brothers, Bill Watts, Gus Watts (1/2 brother) and James Watts. They were Black and they were to have had two or three sisters who were said to have passed over the color line. My grandfather was aka as "Wash" Watts. I have not been able to locate him prior to 1894 when he married my grandmother, Maggie Moreland Watts in Paulding Co, GA on July 12, 1894. My grandfather died in 1932 at the age of 74 in Los Angeles, CA. I found a George Watts, black, age 12, living with a Robert Putnam in Waterloo Township, Laurens,SC on the 1870 census rolls. FOWLER / MOORE Family of Joseph Fowler b. in Wake County North Carolina and moved to South Carolina in Laurens County. He may have married in Laurens County and had his family there. I am looking for the birth of a son born in 1781, I think in Laurens County. His son was John Fowler who later married a Pinson daughter and a second marriage to Elizabeth Alexander Moore. He is found around the Baptist church community of Mr. Pleasant, which he and his father-in-law donated land for the building. It is John's father, Joseph Fowler, who is a lost connection. BERRY I am looking for information on Virginia Berry who moved to Laurens County about 1852. She lived in Columbia, SC before moving to Laurens. She had 3 brothers that I know of. Sam born in NC 1815, Thomas William born in SC in 1818, and Charles born in SC in 1824. Sam and Charles were tailors, T. W. owned and operated a saloon. Virginia worked in a millinery shop in Laurens and when she lived in Columbia, she worked in Mrs. Bishops millinery shop. Sam moved to Hendersonville, NC., Charles moved to Ms. but worked in Mobile, Al. He disappeared while working in Mobile about 1853 and was never heard from again. His wife and 5 daughters never knew what happened to him. T.W. stayed in Columbia, SC. On the 1870 census he is listed with wife Julia A. and several children. From all the different surnames and races that lived in his household, he must have had a boarding house. The information that I have on Virginia and Sam came from letters that T.W. wrote to Charles. I would really like to know what happened to Virginia. |

HOUSE I have been in touch with a man named Herb Cunningham in Oklahoma who says his MOORE family intermarried with the HOUSE family and that there was a Thomas HOUSE. who had a land grant in Laurens Co. in 1787 and a John HOUSE in 1784. His wife Rebecca died in 1827 in Abbeville Co SC. Archibald married again to Emeline STRAIN in 1833 at Abbeville Co SC. Their family remained in Abbeville Co until 1849 when they moved to Winston Co MS. Archibald HOLT died Sep 8 1862 in Winston Co MS. Emeline moved to Shelby Co TX in 1869 where she lived until her death in 1897. Archibald had a brother named Israel HOLT. HUNTER / GRAY HUNTER family, Robert and Susannah Dalrymple The son of this couple, the man I am searching for, was killed in the Civil war. Family legend indicates this death occurred at the Crater in Virginia, July 1864. It may be that William, his brother, died at the Crater. His name may have been John HUNTER, but so far no luck locating him. Robert and Susanna HUNTER are buried at Hopewell Methodist Church in Laurens Co. Robert died March 26, 1879 and Susanna died October 6, 1871. Their children listed in 1850 are Sarah, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Nancy, Frances, Eliza, Martha and Eliot. This man married Caroline R. GREY, sister of Hezekiah GREY. She may have been second wife, stepmother to John Robert HUNTER, my great grandfather, b. Aug. 15, 1848 d. Sept 17, 1913 in Columbia, SC. Caroline's children were Rachel Ella, Henry C., William W., and Caroline D. HUNTER as listed in the 1870 census. They were in Anderson county at that time. |

WIGGINS I recently found some NC Superior Court depositions which had some interesting information about some Laurens County residents. They said that John Wiggins was the only heir of George and Margaret Wiggins and that he left Lenoir County, NC to go to Laurens County, SC where he married Elizabeth Arrington and had a son Asahel Wiggins born Christmas Day 1774. John Wiggins enlisted in service and was killed in Charleston, SC in 1777. Asahel Wiggins was in the 1800 census for Laurens County, SC, but I don't know what happened to him after that. Does anyone know anything about this family? I am interested in any Wiggins information and will share what I have. |

My great grand parents were Easter and Peter Kinard (Census, 1920) reared my maternal grandmother, Janie Nora in Clinton, South Carolina. Janie married Edward Cunningham (whom I know nothing about) and had at least seven children; Roosevelt, Johnny, Jon Cortt, Sam, Carrie Elizabeth and my mother, Jessie.
