Looking for ancestors, spouses, siblings, descendants, (anybody?) ... Hearsay documents William REYNOLDS in the 1800 Laurens Co. census. William was married to Alsey (born in Ireland) and they had the following children: Alsey (born 1798 SC), Margaret, Samuel Marion, Robert, William, John, Rebecca, and two other daughters... William REYNOLDS father was possibly Thomas Reynolds who was born in the Highlands or in Ireland. Thomas had another son, Samuel, who lived at some point in Warren Co., IL. I'd appreciate a census look-up if anyone could do that, or any other data available about this family. By 1810 they had moved to Garrard Co., Kentucky. Thank you and Happy Hunting!

HARDIN, ELI 1808-1882. Married Jane BOLT 1812-1887 who was the daughter of John BOLT 1784-1867 and Nancy LINDLEY 1788-1875. Both John and Nancy were born and died in Laurens County, SC. Both Jane & Eli were born in SC. They were married in SC in 1832. They moved to GA about 1838. Who were Eli's parents or siblings? Looking for information on Hugh Toland who married Mary Langston. Hugh from Ireland. Both Hugh and Mary are buried in the Langston Family Cemetery in Laurens County. Evidently they lived and raised their children there. Their son, William, is my husband's g grandfather and he and his wife Paulina Street Toland are buried in Mart Cemetery in Mart, Texas. I am trying to go farther back on the Toland side and would like to know when Hugh came to US. Thanks.

I would like to correspond with anyone researching Smiths in Laurens, South Carolina. Particularly interested in the father of Clark Smith, B 1812 in Laurens, Married Rebecca Garrett(father Harmon Garrett) also from Laurens, SC. Father I think is John Smith, senior or junior, B in Ireland, around 1788, but I have yet to prove conclusive link. Clark had a son named John C. Smith who married Permelia Putman of Laurens.

My ancestors, Thomas M. Goddard and Elender Studdard, were married in SC, later moved to AL and MS. I know Elender's family was from Laurens County, her father was Samuel, son of David Stoddard. I cannot find the parents of Thomas M. Goddard. I know there were Goddards in Laurens County from about 1790, but can't link them with Thomas M. Thomas M. born about 1816, had a brother, George, who married Elender Studdard's sister, Nancy.Would appreciate any information anyone might have.

Hi my name is Carole Watts and I'm looking for my Grandfather and his brothers. My grandfather was George Washington Watts b circa 1858 in Laurens Co. He had three brothers, Bill Watts, Gus Watts (1/2 brother) and James Watts. They were Black and they were to have had two or three sisters who were said to have passed over the color line. My grandfather was aka as "Wash" Watts. I have not been able to locate him prior to 1894 when he married my grandmother, Maggie Moreland Watts in Paulding Co, GA on July 12, 1894. My grandfather died in 1932 at the age of 74 in Los Angeles, CA. I found a George Watts, black, age 12, living with a Robert Putnam in Waterloo Township, Laurens,SC on the 1870 census rolls. I am interested in any information on the family names of Pressley, Monroe, Traynum, or Bagwell. All of these families resided in Laurens County for many years and probably still do. My grandparents were John Berry Pressley (1905-1980) and Annie Lucille Monroe Pressley (1904-1978) who grew up in the Princeton area. My Grandfathers parents were J Lafayette Pressley and Martha Traynum. My Grandmother 's parents were William Henry Monroe (1876-1943) and Eleanor Burts ( 1875-1914). William Henry Monroe was the son (or grandson?) of Andrew Jackson Monroe who was in Co. E 16th SC Vol Inf during the Civil War ; and Nancy Ann Bagwell. We know he was a deacon of the Durban's Creek Baptist Church in Laurens Co. One of my Great Grandmother's was Narcissa Jane Richie b 1815 SC. She married my Great Grandfather Isaac COOPER before 1835. They were in DeKalb County ALA in 1836 to about 1845, then to Newton Co. ARK. Narcissa Jane had a brother named Joe who later became an outlaw in Arkansas. Census' show largest concentration of RICHIEs in Lauren and Abbeville Counties. Would appreciate any help.

My Great Grandfather was John Thomas Hughes b 1831 SC and his wife was Harriet Matilda DAWSON or DALTON. They lived in SC in 1870. They were married before 1868. One daughter, Anner, was born in 1868 and died in 1870. A son, D. Thomas HUGHES, was born in 1870. They moved to Fannin Co. TX shortly thereafter. I have reached a stone wall for there is little family informaiton available. JT was a gin builder and operator in TX and later Roff, Pontotoc Co. OK. He also served as the community doctor for Roff. I would appreciate any leads.

He had two known brothers, Joshua and James MILNER. They moved to Laurens Co. SC in the early 1800's. William married (wife unknown), and they had five known children: 1. female (unknown), Richard E. Lewis LINVILLE, bap. 1737 VA, son of John and Anna Christina STEPHENS LINVILLE, was living at the LINVILLE post on Tyger (Linville) River by 1745/50. Later family returned to NC or VA and then back to SC by 1775-80. Mother Ann LINVILLE died SC 1785.

Lewis LINVILLE married c. 1760 to Mary (maiden name unknown). Lewis died Laurens Co., SC before July 1822 and Mary d. Laurens Co., SC before Oct 1825. Only documented children: Lewis LINVILLE, Jr., Zilphy LINVILLE and Viny LINVILLE, as listed in estate file. Was Evan LINVILLE, b. before 1775 a son? What about John and William LINVILLE and Massa LINVILLE?

Am trying to establish relationship between Lewis LINVILLE, bap. 1737, d. 1822, and John LINVILLE, b. 1798 Laurens CO., SC and Jacob LINVILLE, b. 1806, Laurens Co., SC. Does anyone one have any information on these people who were in up-country SC so early?

Family of Joseph Fowler b. in Wake County North Carolina and moved to South Carolina in Laurens County. He may have married in Laurens County and had his family there. I am looking for the birth of a son born in 1781, I think in Laurens County. His son was John Fowler who later married a Pinson daughter and a second marriage to Elizabeth Alexander Moore. He is found around the Baptist church community of Mr. Pleasant, which he and his father-in-law donated land for the building. It is John's father, Joseph Fowler, who is a lost connection. Hello my name is Jerry Hollan. I am researching the Holland families of SC. I am looking for a Thomas Holland that was born in SC in 1792. The first record I have on him is about 1805 When he arrived in Robertson Co Tn. He married in 1820, fathered 10 children. My direct line was his son William P. Holland. He moved to Graves Co. Looking for parents and siblings of Andrew F. Allen, Sr. and his wife Mariah Williamston Allen. Andrew B: 9-22-1845 SC and D: 8-6-1908. Mariah B: 5-1842 SC and D: 2- 26-1928. Both are buried at Turkey Creek Baptist Church. I was told this church in Laurens Co. but not positive. They were married 11-24- 1865 not sure location. This came from family Bible. He served in the civil war. Just learned from a distant relative that the graveyard was vandalized and his cross stolen. Would like to replace it if someone could send me correct address of church and the ministers name. Would be so grateful. I have tried twice to locate Mariah's death certificate and Vital Records in Columbia cannot locate. Any help or advice warmly welcomed.

I am looking for information on Virginia Berry who moved to Laurens County about 1852. She lived in Columbia, SC before moving to Laurens. She had 3 brothers that I know of. Sam born in NC 1815, Thomas William born in SC in 1818, and Charles born in SC in 1824. Sam and Charles were tailors, T. W. owned and operated a saloon. Virginia worked in a millinery shop in Laurens and when she lived in Columbia, she worked in Mrs. Bishops millinery shop. Sam moved to Hendersonville, NC., Charles moved to Ms. but worked in Mobile, Al. He disappeared while working in Mobile about 1853 and was never heard from again. His wife and 5 daughters never knew what happened to him. T.W. stayed in Columbia, SC. On the 1870 census he is listed with wife Julia A. and several children. From all the different surnames and races that lived in his household, he must have had a boarding house. The information that I have on Virginia and Sam came from letters that T.W. wrote to Charles. I would really like to know what happened to Virginia.

Looking for Teagues in Laurens County. Specifically, information on my great grandfather, Lewdy K. Teague who was born in Laurens about 1827. He was married to a woman identified only as Parthema E. They had 11 children, Iras (male), Margaret, Jessie, Washington, Martin, Thomas, James, Arthur, John and Warren (my grandfather). I have no record of where these children were born, but assume most were born in Laurens County. My grandfather, Warren, and his wife Ruth Nelson, ended up in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where they raised five children. They are both buried there. I am looking for information, documents and anything about the following: Paul Finley - born in Laurens county Jan 1762 and died in Laurens County in June 1843. His wife was Mary Martin, I have no birth day but she died in 1846. They had 10 children that I know of. Sarah ANDREWS, b. 1794, Laurens Co., SC, m. in 1811, to Abraham HOWELL, b. 1792, Laurens Co., SC. Sarah's father was Howell ANDREWS, who lived in Laurens Co. for a number of years. Abraham's parents were John HOWELL and Mary (Polly) WILSON, also of Luarens Co. It appears that Sarah and Abraham grew up in Laurens Co., then shortly after they were married in 18ll, they left for TN, then on to MS. Reverend Aaron Pinson came into the Laurens County area of South Carolina in 1767 with a Joseph Pinson. Aaron Pinson got his 250 acre land grant on the saluda river. My line is from his son, Isaac Pinson, all of whose descendants I would like to trace. One in particular is Elihu Pinson, Isaac's only son. Elihu had left Laurens and was in Pontotoc County, Mississippi by 1850. What happened to Elihu and his son, Mastin Henderson Pinson, who served Mississippi as a soldier during the War of Northern Aggression, is the subject of my search. I have been in touch with a man named Herb Cunningham in Oklahoma who says his MOORE family intermarried with the HOUSE family and that there was a Thomas HOUSE. who had a land grant in Laurens Co. in 1787 and a John HOUSE in 1784. Samuel was supposedly born ~1796-1798 "in SC" according to the 1830 and 1850 Census in GA. I do not know the father,mother,brothers,sisters of Samuel House. All reportedly born in SC , birthplace unknown. Philip, Samuel's son married a Margaret I. Bratton, as his second wife in 1867 she died around 1906 in Atlanta. Philip had a son , T.J., who also married Emma Bratton who was a younger sister of Margaret. Their father was Thomas. All were born in SC, birthplace unknown. (?Brattonville connection) If you have any knowledge on these people I would appreciate hearing from you and I will send you any more I come across. Searching for information on William Boyd. He came from Ireland at age of twelve and is believed to be an orphan. He married Patsy Winn and they had nine children: David Washington, b.1/21/1831, d. 10/12/1879; William Teague; Edward; Wilson; Rook; Henry; Addison; Susan; and Mary Jane. His wife Rebecca died in 1827 in Abbeville Co SC. Archibald married again to Emeline STRAIN in 1833 at Abbeville Co SC. HUNTER family, Robert and Susannah Dalrymple The son of this couple, the man I am searching for, was killed in the Civil war. Family legend indicates this death occurred at the Crater in Virginia, July 1864. It may be that William, his brother, died at the Crater. His name may have been John HUNTER, but so far no luck locating him. Robert and Susanna HUNTER are buried at Hopewell Methodist Church in Laurens Co. Robert died March 26, 1879 and Susanna died October 6, 1871. Their children listed in 1850 are Sarah, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Nancy, Frances, Eliza, Martha and Eliot. This man married Caroline R. GREY, sister of Hezekiah GREY. She may have been second wife, stepmother to John Robert HUNTER, my great grandfather, b. Aug. 15, 1848 d. Sept 17, 1913 in Columbia, SC. I recently found some NC Superior Court depositions which had some interesting information about some Laurens County residents. They said that John Wiggins was the only heir of George and Margaret Wiggins and that he left Lenoir County, NC to go to Laurens County, SC where he married Elizabeth Arrington and had a son Asahel Wiggins born Christmas Day 1774. John Wiggins enlisted in service and was killed in Charleston, SC in 1777. Asahel Wiggins was in the 1800 census for Laurens County, SC, but I don't know what happened to him after that. Does anyone know anything about this family? I am interested in any Wiggins information and will share what I have.

Cunningham Orr (b. ca 1800) was in Laurens Co. in 1850, but by 1860 he has disappeared from census records and his family is in the home of James Rogers in Cherokee Co., NC. Orr marriage and will or estate records may help to clear up this mystery.

I am searching for any information on GOODWIN families who lived in Laurens County in the early to mid 1800s.
My g-g-g-g grandfather, SOLOMON GOODWIN, is listed in the 1830 census of Laurens Co, SC; by the 1840 census, he had moved down into DeKalb Co, Georgia.
Family records show that Solomon had at least three children: (1) STERLING GOODWIN, b. ca 1805 in SC, m. Elizabeth; (2) SOLOMON GOODWIN, Jr, b. ca 1807 in SC, m. Mary; (3) HARRIS GOODWIN, b. 13 Jun 1811 in SC, married Emily Dodgen, d. 23 Jul 1892, DeKalb Co, Georgia. I would appreciate any help you can give me with this. Thanks!

I descend from Philip DAY whose will was written in 1793 in Laurens Co, SC. His wife was Frances. She died about 1821. I next descend from their son, Amery DAY (b. ca 1760-70) and wife Jane. They went to Perry Co, AL about 1818 and died there after the 1840 census.

The oldest, Bayesdon, b. 12 Dec 1822 may be son from a possible first marriage for Elizabeth. Bayesdon m. ca 1842, Pleasant Mound, Laurens, SC to Elizabeth RIDDLE. Jesse and Elizabeth moved from Laurens Co. to Lauderdale Co., AL ca 1847. Their dau Jincy Jane m. 20 Oct 1847 Rainey LONG there and a dau Sarah was b. ca 1848 AL. The family is found on the 1850 census of Wayne Co., TN living next door to William B. DAVIS, b. 1798 SC. After Elizabeth's death, Jesse m. Frances M. ??. Their first ch. b. 1855. Seeking information on my maternal side of the family. My great grand parents were Easter and Peter Kinard (Census, 1920) reared my maternal grandmother, Janie Nora in Clinton, South Carolina. Janie married Edward Cunningham (whom I know nothing about) and had at least seven children; Roosevelt, Johnny, Jon Cortt, Sam, Carrie Elizabeth and my mother, Jessie. All of these children were being cared for by Peter and Easter according to the 1920 Census. Any information that you may have concerning Kinards and Cunninghams would be greatly appreciated. Particularly interested in knowing of any slave owners by the same name; other Kinards and Cunninghams still in the area and may be researching their ancestors and decsendants. William Reeder, son of Simon Reeder Jr., 1735-1797, left Laurens-Newberry area about 1830, appears in the 1833 Barbour county, al. census. His son, Abijah, may have remained in SC, but arrived in Barbour County to be listed in the 1860 census. Any help appreciated on this family.

I am trying to find which WILSON married ARAMINTA MUSGROVE, widow of JOHN MUSGROVE, who supported the British in Revolutionary War and had his property confiscated about the time that he died. She then remarried an unknown WILSON; but, couldn't have been married to him very long before he died - probably less than two or three years. She was shown as ARAMINTA WILLSON in 1790, living next door to her middle son, WILLIAM MUSGROVE in Newberry County, S.C. Is anyone working on the WILSON/WILLSON history in Laurens and Newberry Counties?

I am currently looking for information on the SMART surname in Laurens County, SC. The story is that 3 brothers married 3 sisters with the last name of KARR who were from Georgia.
William David SMART was born in 1883 and died 1940. He married Fannie KARR (11/9/1879 - 10/8/1958). Their children were Thurman SMART (1912-1968), Ruth SMART, Nellie SMART, John A. SMART and Paul SMART. Thurman SMART married Ethel MOODY and had a son named David (1935 - ) who is my father.
John Henry SMART (brother of William) was born 3/5/1879 and died 10/8/1911. He married Sally Louise KARR (10/20/1887 - 6/15/1947). Their daughter was Myrtle Mae SMART who married Cecil B. LANGFORD.
Samuel SMART married Florence KARR.

A sister of the three brothers was named Claudia Bell SMART (1881-1911) She married Newton William MEDLOCK in 1898. Their children are Lewis, John, Alma, and Luther.
The KARR sisters had other siblings named Molly KARR, Joseph KARR, and George KARR.
Any help on the SMART and/or KARR surname would be tremendously appreciated.

A Richard Fowler with wife Elizabeth willed land to sons Joshua and Richard in a will probated about 1790 in Laurens County. Daughters named were Alice Barton, Rebecca Barton, Elizabeth Flanigan, and Ann Nevil. A John Fowler in a 1791 will in Laurens County named wife Molly and seven children: Priscilla Stone, Deborah Fowler, Moses, Jesse, James, Joel Fowler, America, and Tabitha Fowler. Thomas Moore was named executor and a Thomas Moore was a witness, along with a William Fowler and a John Fowler. In a Laurens County deed dated 1790 a Richard Fowler and wife Debby deeded land to Isaac Fowler. Thomas Moore and his wife Roseannah Moore, believed to be a Fowler, witnessed the deed. This Thomas and Roseannah, along with Isaac Fowler, moved to Knox County, KY. What is the relationship between the Richard and John of the two wills?? Who is Rose Hinton annah Fowler's father? Who is the Thomas Moore who married a Roseannah in Laurens County? Any help on the Fowlers and Moores of Laurens County will be appreciated.
