Military Service
A William Wheeler (possibly
William, son of Jesse) enlisted for Confederate service at
Spartanburg 13 April 1861. He was mustered at Orangeburgh 4
June 1861 and was reported on a muster roll of 31 October 1861

surgeon. He re-enlisted at the reorganization in April
1862. He was discharged under provision of the Conscript
Act 14 July 1862.
There is no concrete
proof, yet, that William "Buck" Wheeler is the son of Jesse and
Jane (McMakin) Wheeler except for the fact that the 1860 South
Carolina Census lists William Wheeler married to Lorraine and
children, Martha J., Mary, Jesse, John, E. Wheeler, and Nancy
A., as living next door to Jane Wheeler with children, Nancy
