The tombstone inscription project
is going well. To date we have the tombstone inscriptions for 53
cemeteries, that's over 5100 records now online!! More to come, so keep
checking back!! You can view the list with links here.
Many, many thanks to our dedicated volunteers!!

Added some cemeteries to the
list
that had been left out. Jill Moore of Georgetown is taking on the
project of mapping all the cemeteries in the county this summer, and will send
me the information as she gets it. She is also planning on trying to get
a group of people together to get the tombstone transcriptions from these
cemeteries. Much thanks to Jill for all her hard work, we are looking
forward to her additions as they come in!!

Uploaded the 1840 Georgetown Census
this afternoon. This past few days I've added the Wills of William
Grant, John Magill, and John
M. Tillman. I plan to start a surname page this week.
30 April 2001
Added Will of Elizabeth
Nesbit contributed by Phyllis Britton Canady. Rearranged some pages, added a
main page for Court Records with some
information on the availability of records for Georgetown County, and links
from there to Wills/Probates, Deeds/Grants,
and Misc. Records.

Checked all links on the site and corrected any that had expired
or had been moved. If you spot any that I missed, please send me an
e-mail
so I can make corrections. Added links on the Cemetery
page to site surveys on the USGenWeb Tombstone Transcription Project website for
Beulah Methodist Cemetery and Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery.

The
Georgetown County GenWeb site has a new webmaster. My name is Debbie
Young, and I have taken over the duties of maintaining this site from Carl
Kirton. I owe him a great deal of thanks for all the hard
work he did with the site! Please visit often to see what's
new. I welcome comments and suggestions, so please feel free to send me
an e-mail.
