Carol Lee Singleton Thomas of Dover, Del., formerly of Oakley, SC, died
Aug. 6, 2006, in Dover. Funeral services were held Aug. 11 at Gethers
Funeral Home Chapel, Moncks Corner, SC with burial in New Home Baptist
Church Cemetery, Oakley, SC. Mrs. Thomas was born Dec. 13, 1940, in Oakley,
daughter of Deacon Vera Mae Kane Hill, 86, of Birchwood Drive, Moncks Corner,
SC passed away July 31, 2006, at Trident Hospital in Charleston, SC. A native
of Jersey City, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and
Mathilda Bauer Kane. Mrs. Hill had lived most of her life in North Bergen,
New Jersey and also had made her home in South Carolina for the past 20
years. She retired from Western Electric in 1976 with 25 years of dedicated
service. After retirement she and her husband resided and sailed on their
sailboat, The Wanderer, along the South Carolina Intercostal Waterway for
6 years and later made their home in Moncks Corner.She was preceded in
death by her husband, George W. Hill, who passed away in 1992, her
daughter, Patricia Anne Treadway, a son, William G. Hill and a sister,
Mildred Kane. Surviving are her daughters, Veralyn Cook of Moncks Corner,
and Geraldine S. Rogers of Secaucus, New Jersey; a son, Robert E. Hill of
Philadelphia, Pa.; brothers, Edward Kane of Secaucus, New Jersey and Robert
Kane of Lyndhurst, New Jersey; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and
1 great great grandchild. A funeral service was held Aug. 5 in the chapel of
Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Entombment will be in the
Garden Mausoleum at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens, Clyde.
Command Sgt. Major William Alfred Thomas, US Army, Ret., of Alvin, SC, died July 8, 2006,
in a North Charleston hospital.The funeral was held 11 a.m. July 11 in the Eccles United
Methodist Church, Huger. The Rev. Bill Burk officiated. Interment followed in the Church
Cemetery with full military honors. Directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner.Mr.
Thomas was born May 28, 1929, in Huger, SC, a son of Alfred Edward Thomas and Mary Jane
Shuler Thomas. He served in both Vietnam and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Eccles
United Methodist Church and was a former shipping manager for Reliable Electric. Mr.
Thomas was preceded in death by a son, George M. Thomas.Surviving are his wife, Ulla
Axelsson Thomas; four daughters, Karin T. Vukovinsky of Hartsville, Sarah J. Crawford
of Columbia, Donna K. Bonneville of Salisbury, Md., and Jane Lynch of Macedonia; two
sons, William A. Thomas, Jr., of St. Stephen and Woodroe E. Thomas of Lincoln, Delaware;
four sisters, Dora Gaskins of Macedonia, Rose Harris of St. Stephen, Shirley Gaskin of
Huger, and Ida Hilton of Baytown, Texas; two brothers, Charlie Thomas of Bonneau and Joe
Thomas of Cleveland, Tenn.; fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bobby Harris, Charles Tart, Ed Gaskins, Allen Phillips, and Danny Mims.
Betty Jean Murray Thompson, 71, of Round Rock, Texas, formerly of Moncks
Corner, S.C., a retired court reporter, died May 7, 2006, at Heartland Healthcare
Center in Austin, Texas. The graveside funeral service was at 11 a.m. May 16 at
Westview Cemetery, Moncks Corner. Burial was directed by Russell Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Thompson was born March 22, 1935, in Moncks Corner, a daughter of George Alva
Murray and Susie Elizabeth Eaddy Murray. She was a freelance court reporter and
owner of Austin Court Reporters for over 20 years. In 1980, she was the first
recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for the Texas Court Reports Association
(TCRA). She was President of the TCRA in 1992-1993 and was Executive Director from
1994-1999. In 1980, she was named a fellow of the National Court Reporter’s
Association and in 1998, she was inducted into the TCRA Hall of Fame. Mrs.
Thompson was Office Administrator for Kennedy Reporting Service from 1999 until
the time of her death. Surviving are two sons, David W. (Suzanne) Thompson of
Austin, Texas and Stephen E. Thompson of Kary, Texas; two brothers, Gerald A.
(Charlotte) Murray of Charleston and William W. (Kay) Murray of Moncks Corner;
four grandchildren: several nieces and nephews; and several grand nieces and
